She was actually put forward by Sen. McCain!
Late last night, the Senate confirmed the appointment of Diane Humetewa to Arizona's District Court. A Hopi, she becomes the FIRST Native American woman to serve as a federal judge in our nation's history.
The more diverse our courts and legislatures become, the more fair and equal our nation will eventually be.

The current make-up of the Senate is 53 Democrats, 2 Independents, and 45 Republicans. It probably should say something about the nature of our political system that the Independents caucus and vote pretty much entirely with the Democrats, but that's a post for another day. With the upcoming 2014 elections, the Republican party is going to attempt and take control of both houses of the legislature.
To do that, they would need a net gain of 6 Senate seats. They are in luck, because there are more chances for them to win (i.e. competitive races).
However, one of their targets was Mark Pryor, one of the more conservative Dems currently serving.
Surprisingly, after being labeled the "most vulnerable" it appears that Pryor... is showing remarkable life.
Not saying that the Dems aren't in danger, but this is very good news.
