May 24, 2008 10:51 PM Lars and the Real Girl

Wow. Considering the premise, this ended up being one of the best damn movies I've seen in a long time. Ryan Gosling continues to demonstrate that he is one of the finest actors of his generation. Seriously, this movie has more heart than any romantic comedy or drama that has come out in the last few years. Which is saying a lot considering Bianca is... well... let's say that she is advertised as being from South America (by way of the Danish) and yet she's made of plastic. Absolutely superb and it just eventually ended with me wishing that I could find a magical place where the townspeople are so willing to help one another, to go to the extreme of accepting someone's quirkiness for their own good . . . and eventually change a bad situation into something from which they all learned. I can't praise this movie enough guys, go fucking watch it now. Seriously, yo.

May 23, 2008 08:50 AM Important votes indeed.

I am bothered that I live in a country where more people vote for the American Idol winner than they do for the President. It's more important that someone be crowned the "American Idol" (When there have already been about six or seven before them), than to figure out who should be leading our nation? I understand that some of the votes come from underage people, but I know there are definitely plenty of adults who are passionately involved in the outcome of this show. Is it so hard that they would muster at least a small amount of care for an election that actually means something? I mean seriously... David vs David isn't going to decide the future of our country's financial difficulties, foreign affairs, environmental policies, social policies, or supreme court makeup. Maybe I am being a little preachy, but this thought just struck me the other day and made my aversion to American Idol all the more potent.

May 22, 2008 08:45 AM And now Alicia. . .

At the same time, Alicia found herself trying to throw together plans with her actual significant other. It had been a few hours since she had heard from Philly guy; if they were going to be meeting for dinner tomorrow she wanted to know where exactly they would be eating. As her boss walked by, Alicia threw her phone to the floor and smiled, pretending to be busy typing some information into the computer.

As he walked away, she bent over and retrieved her phone. It flashed “message” and she sighed, relieved that he had finally answered her.

“I’m sorry, but this isn’t working.” It took her a moment to comprehend what he was saying. Then she closed her phone and let the realization slowly trickled in: She had been dumped by a text message.

May 20, 2008 11:17 PM Kylie

Kylie realized that she probably shouldn't be there. It had been a year since they last spoke and, honestly, it wasn't as if she'd missed him. An afterthought, someone out of her life and sometimes, isn't it better that way? Do we always need to connect with our past in order to find some happiness in the future? Sometimes weren't people left in the past for a reason? She sat and toyed with her dinner, wondering how long this "not-date" could drag on for.

That was when he reached over and grabbed something off her plate.

Kylie resisted the urge to stab him in the hand with her fork and instead turned to the passing waiter, "check please"
