September 6, 2008 12:12 PM The best song ever written about...

a TV. No really, a TV. Hah. But it was good for Willow and Tara back then, wasn't it?
* So dear to me * Always keep me company * Who needs to go outside * I will be your silent bride * I can't take my eyes off you * Nothing ever needs to be said * You send your message right into my head * You fill me up when I'm alone * So soothing is your monotone *

* I can't take my eyes off you * I can't take my eyes off you * I can't take my eyes off you * I can't take my eyes off you *

* So maybe you're not as real * as the others * But I choose you over all my past lovers * For they have come and they have gone * but I can always turn you on *

* I can't take my eyes off you *
* I can't take my eyes off you *

September 5, 2008 12:26 AM Wow...

Most gay cinema, I think I've mentioned before, usually ends up involving a subplot that includes either AIDS or someone being dead. No Seriously, there just always seems to be a story that has at least one of those cute little depressing undertones to bring the entire project down. Then there are movies like "Beautiful Thing" or "Trick", which are either so adorably romantic or so absolutely balls out funny that I will watch them over and over again. Now I have another: "Shelter". I mean, beyond the whole "dudes surfing that are nice to look at", you just got this little heartwarming movie about two dudes falling in love. Plus, if there was ever an argument about families existing beyond a "woman/man" structure, this would be a good place to start with some visual defense. Watch the trailer and then rent this bitch... srsly, it's that fucking good.

September 3, 2008 03:34 PM Remember, Remember the 2007's September.

Hmm, right now I have a better feeling than I did last year going into September. The Mets are definitely not scaring me like they did last year. Ever since we switched managers, my sense of confidence in our ability to overcome obstacles such as pitching and hitting have greatly increased. I don't fear when certain pitchers take the mound and there haven't been glaring losing streaks. In fact, since we switched out Randolph, I think the longest losing streak this team has suffered was three games? And then they came back to have a winning streak right after. We've won series or tied series (with the one loss to Houston coming to mind). What I'm saying is... last year we had a seven game lead, but I predicted we would be knocked out weeks before the season was over. It just seemed inevitable. This year? Two games... yet I am cautiously optimistic that we are going to pull this one out!

September 2, 2008 03:44 PM Palin.

I was offended by this choice initially. I think it was designed to accomplish two things: (1) Cater to women and those who were upset with Hilary not only not receiving a nomination, but also being left out of the VP position and (2) Tout out someone who was far more conservative than John McCain has sometimes been. What's funny is that those who would have voted for Hilary should never have been interested in Palin for that second reason. How could they? She represents a polar political opposite to Clinton: Birth Control, Education, Gay Rights . . . a plethora of social causes that the two would sooner wrestle over than agree on. How dare they assume that just by dangling a woman before us we would be ready to leap forward and snatch at these little crumbs. Worse, what a woman! Someone who claims that if her daughter were raped, she wouldn't support abortion? That's a value and standard that flies in the face of most of the country, who recognize not only the tragedy that such a crime inflicts but also the emotional impacts having to carry a child of rape for 9 months might bring. If a married woman were to be raped, she and her husband should be expected to raise this other man's child? Doesn't that mean the rapist ends up winning in the long run? Are we really so against a woman's ability to control her own future that we would even deny them a chance to escape a terrible travesty that was inflicted upon them?!

Palin seems to have ties to the Oil Industry, which leaves me weary and totally flies in the face of the concept that we would be breaking away from dependence upon fossil fuels. She doesn't nor ever will support gay marriage or the legal awarding of rights through Civil Unions. She is a card carrying member of the NRA, so I guess it would be wonderful if gangs have access to high powered assault weapons. Plus, at the end of the day, she only believes in Abstinence only education when dealing with teen pregnancy ... because that worked so well in her own family.

I dearly hope that no one is so simply minded to vote for McCain now that he chose Palin. It was such a slap in the face to be presented with this Bizarro Clinton and be expected to vote for her. After the speech that Hilary gave the other night, I think it's time that democrats banded together and ensured that this woman never sets foot in the white house unless she is an invited guest on Obama's behalf.

August 31, 2008 10:24 PM The one song you should buy legally when downloading.

A gaggle of who's-who of female artists worked with Babyface to produce a song called "Just Stand up!" It'll be performed live at the telethon (of similar name) dedicated to raising funds to help find a cure for Breast Cancer. Recently, I had a family member who was diagnosed with this disease, so it's somewhat of a personal issue with me I guess. As we are still waiting to find out what's going to happen with her, it's just really fucking scary to know that this is a cancer that strikes so many people. By downloading and purchasing the song (rather than stealing it from limewire), your money goes to making sure that someone is out there dedicating their time to research to finally find a way to stop Breast Cancer.

Artists in order: Beyonce, Carrie Underwood, Rihanna, Sheryl Crow, Fergie, Leona Lewis, Keyshia Cole, Miley Cyrus, Natasha Bedingfield, Leanne Rimes, Melissa Ethridge, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Ciara, and Ashanti
