There are some holidays that I really don't like. One of them has always been Easter; it just reminds me of a holiday where I need to get dressed up. I also don't really enjoy chocolate that much, so it's kinda of a waste on me. I have some fun memories from when we were kids: the endless Gold vs Blue team battles. But overall, I would easily trade in an Easter for a Christmas or a Thanksgiving. Another holiday that I have never had time for is Valentine's Day. Why? It has nothing to do with being alone or with someone. It has to do with my detest that there is a holiday where you're forced to show your love for someone. Why? Why can't you do that 364 other days of a year?
Rich asked about celebrating Anniversaries, but that is different. That's a moment where your celebrating the passage of time that you've spent with a singular individual. That's sweet and sentimental. Valentine's Day is a mass market event; you're sharing it with a whole bunch of people, struggling to get reservations, trying to move past the carnations and hearts and balloons and chocolates (blegh).
I know there is a whole bunch of commercialism to most holidays. But Valentine's day has never served any other purpose in my mind besides that. Don't tell me what I should be getting someone. If I wanted to buy them gifts on some random day, I would. Thanks.
I will not be live blogging the Grammys like I did last year, mostly because I have to do some work while it's going on. I will say this, however: Lil Wayne better get a Grammy, dammit!
Ok, I will say this... U2's song? Not so good. I just am not a huge fan, I guess. They haven't done anything I've enjoyed since... the 90's? Maybe there was one or two songs, but most of their music is just boring to me. They have this status of superband, but I just don't know how well earned that whole crap is.
