March 4, 2009 08:45 PM It continues with Monmouth. Yay.

I once joked around with Debbie (or maybe she was the one who made the joke?): If something can go wrong wtih me and school, it will. There was that whole "You're not being allowed out of Georgian Court" fiasco, the health records fiasco here at Monmouth, the major changes left and right because their education department hates Secondary Education majors... it goes on and on. Well, I was happy because there was only one more year ahead of me. All I need to do is get my classes in order, enroll, and I'm set. It was working out nicely... until I realized that two courses were offered only ONCE a year by the education department... and both at the same time and day. Who does that?! Seriously? They couldn't move one of them to Tuesday or something? They looked at their schedule and saw two mandatory requirements for graduation and thought "Oh well" and put them on the same day? I know that Monmouth is a money making machine. I have come to terms that they care more about the fact kids do their projects so that the paperwork looks good and less about the actual students. But still, man it all sucks so hard. I wrote to the chair, so we will see where this goes. Hopefully I can place out and they can can't the numerous special education courses I didn't need to take in place of this one. OR there might be an independent study in my future. That'll be fun :/

March 2, 2009 12:56 PM New Story Round up on a Cold, Wintery Day.

My mother called up the stairs to inform me that Mayor Bloomburg was giving a conference urging people to stay within their homes. He was also offering advice for those who might need to venture out in the winter wonderland. The interesting part was that he did this bilingually. At first I was like "Well, that's because he's a pretty decent mayor," but in reflection, this is somewhat news worthy. In a nation where people judge those who come from a hispanic background as "foreigners" or "illegals" (When most may not be), it's nice to see a mayor step forward and acknowledge their existence. The cold hard truth? The majority white culture isn't going to be around forever (despite what a certain ideological group may want to believe). Reaching out, showing that you support them, will only help to not only secure votes but perhaps ensure that everyone is being treated fairly. Perhaps I am seeing things through rose-tinted glasses, but it's at least a step in the right direction, eh?

Proposition 8 is going back to courts: The same judges who ruled that denying marriages to gays in the first place now have the uncomfortably decision of either making the correct decision once more (and running the risk of culture wars and disfranchised bigots, I mean voters) OR saying no, and then just being hypocritical and pissing off 48% of the state. Although, the attorney general (not a supporter of gay rights) has come out and said that, Constitutionally (California here, not US), the justices have to reverse this decision. Apparently there may have been a flaw that should have prevented this proposition from either reaching the ballot or doing so in the way it did. So there might still be some hope.

Also on the table is the idea of what to do with the people already married. Some want to divorce these couples. That's right, force a divorce on people. Wow, talk about protecting the "sanctity of marriage".
