A New Day?
Wow, I can't believe I didn't write about this the other day. April 3rd was a pretty powerful day: Not because I turned 27, but because Iowa became the first state outside of New England to grant gays the right to marry. That was literally a high for me. Nothing, however, prepared me for Vermont, which managed to overcome a Governor's veto to allow for gay marriage in that state. It is the first state where a legislature that was voted into office decided to side with equality. I get teary eyed still reading about it. We are talking about a vote that wasn't supposed to happen, supporters were expecting a defeat that day. Yet, it passed. It passed. Now New York, Rhode Island and... wait for it... New Jersey have similar legislation about to be pushed through. The best part for NJ? Corzine has promised that he would sign the law into effect if it was passed by the legislation. That means no 2/3rds vote... they could win by the slimmest of margins. Man, I promise you I will be OPENLY weeping the day that happens; I won't even hide that shit.
