January 9, 2010 09:57 AM My goal of 2010

So today I read that politicans are upset that our side is "talking trash" about their vote. Honestly? I think a few politicans need to grow a pair. They voted against a civil rights issue (some of them couldn't even be bothered to vote) and now they want us to just accept it and move on? If they thought the other side was going to be bad, wait until they hear our fury. I am not going to go back into the night and just lick my wounds. I am angry. I am angry at Jennifer Beck, who I know supports this bill because she said as much. I will not wait "six years" like she suggested. She choose to not vote for this bill because of her "costituents", the same family and friends who I know were supportive of me throughout this process. What she did was disgusting and I will not respond with a simple "thanks, ok, yes mam". I will work to see her removed. I will work to see Sean Kean suffer for spitting in the face of those "friends" and "citizens" that he claims helped revitialize Asbury Park.

Want to know what my resolution is? To make sure that these two politicans suffer in 2011 with defeats. They voted no for political gain and I am going to do everything I can to make sure that doesnt' come into fruition.

This somes up some of my feelings.

January 8, 2010 08:42 AM It happened.

There's me. Picture could be found yesterday when you searched "NJ Senate". Props to Mel Evans catching me at my lowest (That was actually during testimony, not during the vote). It sucks. It happened. We have to move on and take our lessons from this. I was sick yesterday, reading what people say about us though. Us being gays, homosexuals. I was born this way. I am not different and I do my best to be a good, decent human being. Yet the trash people spew... that happiness they had yesterday. It's just saddens me. I don't think you realize how bad it is. Go to comments on nj.com or really, any website yesterday. I told this to my Senator... a defeat only makes their side stronger. They feel like they won, that their hatred is ok. Nice legacy.

January 6, 2010 10:57 AM Oh, hilarious.

* Michelle Bachman is one of those crazy politicans that you just love to hate love for the bat-shit craziness that just rolls out of her mouth. It makes you wonder how she keeps getting elected? Maybe the Minnesotans are waiting for more delicious sound bites that they know will only come while Bachman is in office.
Well either way, it appears that her stance on the census may come back to bite her. Bachman went on record as telling people to actively refuse to fill out their census forms in its entirety, claiming that it was a government conspiracy and linking it to Japanese internment . The problem is, Minnesota needs the census! They are fighting to keep a representative in the House due to the change of the population in this country. And if they lose the representative, that means their state will have to have its districts redivided. Bachman would have to face another incumbent for her position in a district that will now include people not favorable towards her. Oops. She may have campaigned herself out of office. Delicious irony.

* The West Baptist Church came out swinging against Gay Marriage in New Jersey with this press release: "Over 120 New Jersey lying “clergy members” are pressuring the cowards in the New Jersey legislature to let fags marry. The Jews are taking the lead." Christianity at its shining best there.

* Not to be outdone, here's New Jersey Family Policy Council: “Will (Garden State Equality chair) Steven Goldstein and the homosexual political sexual anarchist harvest our children and grandchildren for their agenda and lifestyle?” Oh boy, because if we can marry, that means we can totally hijack the children! Of course, it makes you wonder... do people honestly believe that they themselves can be "converted" if they were influenced enough by the Gays? That doesn't make them very secure in their own sexuality, now does it?

January 5, 2010 06:46 PM Eek.

The New Jersey State Senate has decided to vote on the Marriage Equality Bill this Thursday. Wow.

Update, 8:23 pm:

In other gay news, how many people read about Connecticut (R) Governor Carcieri's veto of a bill last year that would have given gay couples the ability to respectfully determine the final resting place of their deceased partners.

At the time, Carcieri went on record with this nugget: "This bill represents a disturbing trend over the past few years of the incremental erosion of the principles surrounding traditional marriage, which is not the preferred way to approach this issue. If the General Assembly believes it would like to address the issue of domestic partnerships, it should place the issue on the ballot and let the people of the State of Rhode Island decide."

Ah yes, the ole let them vote. I can imagine the ballot initative now: Should gay couples be allowed to bury their loved ones! Because, if they cannot, who will?

Either way, the legislature overturned the Gov's veto today with a pretty resounding vote: The House vote was 67 to 3 and the Senate vote was 29 to 3. At least in the Senate, that means 5 Republicans sided against the Governor on this bill. Nice :)

January 4, 2010 02:35 AM Need to rest before Lobby Day.

I went to sleep early last night in preparation for having to wake up in a few hours for Garden State Equality's lobby day. Instead, I end up with a migraine that only the mighty power of Excedrin Migraine has managed to chase away. This is what happens when I skip meals throughout the day: My body revolts. Though, the one decent part of my migraine (glass half full, people) was that I was having strange dreams that were all gay-political oriented. Maybe this is stress related?

For those following, I don't know if we are going to win this battle. According to Sen. Codey, we have 17 votes in the bag in the Senate. We need 21. Too many senators have said "I will be your 21st." That's funny. If they all stood up and voted yes, then they could all claim to be 21. If only voting was secret, but I guess this way we can hold people accountable. They say to wait. But incoming Governor Chris Christie has promised to veto any gay marriage legislation. What does that mean? Four or eight years (depending upon his re-election). I'll be 35. Sadly, my grandparents will be dead at this point.

Why is that important? Because my grandmother, Dolores Becker, is one of the most important people in my life. I would like to find someone so that she can see me get married. She supports me. I don't know if I can broach the topic of saying "Grandma, just wait 8 years for me." I would love to think I'd have her in my life that long, but reality is reality.

How condescending to tell me to wait, really. "Equality is coming, you just sit tight." If you can see it on the horizon, if you know it's right, then I wish people would have the backbone to stand up for their convictions and do the right thing. I fear this vote will just rally the other side, which doesn't need any help being bigoted and hateful.
