Huffingtonpost lists the "11 Books people lie about reading." I don't think I've lied about any of these. And I can say I've actually read one of them (Hint: I was a good gay boy and it had a provocative title!)
A lot of noise is being made about Jan Brewer's inability to answer questions or finish a press conference. But as of July, she led her opponent by 20 points, so I don't know if anything is going to derail her. See, folks, you can ride anti-immigration sentiment all the way to the bank, yeehaw.
And on the gay marriage front, here's a map that I want to get blown up on my wall. Interesting to note, that Nepal may actually be allowing marriage, but still waiting on them to pass the new constitution into law. Officially, we would have the first Asian nation allowing marriage. I think that'd be almost as big as the first South American, yea? One on every Continent by 2012! How's that for a slogan?!
September 3, 2010 10:35 AMAustralians may be voting on Gay Marriage.
Despite the car incident (and if you are associated with me on facebook, you can get updates there), I am going to keep just plugging away here with marriage updates and other stuff that probably is a little more important than my issues.
There is word that when Parliament reconvenes they will actually vote on gay marriage in Australia. This will be done by a "conscience vote", meaning that elected officials will be allowed to vote outside "party lines" in order to decide the fate of the GLBT citizens they are supposed to represent. In New Jersey, this worked to cause the gay marriage vote to be struck down. New York as well. So we'll see how well it goes there, yea?
Of course, they've called for this vote before... so who knows?
But honestly, who wouldn't want Aussie gold-medalist Matthew Mitchum (the ONLY out and proud gay Olympian in Beijing) to have the chance to get married to his partner? Look how adorable he is...
Matthew hugging his partner after performing that spectacular, gold winning dive. I promise I only cried a little back I bawled like a little bitch back then

It's beautiful what a kid's imagination can do to transform the worst parts of life into something "magical." This reminds me of a book I had to read for a Child Literature Class in college. Tyler used to ask us to read the book to him, despite the ever depressing subject matter of a young boy and his father homeless in an airport. Yet, somehow Eve Bunting had supplied her protagonist with the hope that every day might bring something better.
Meanwhile, Tasmania took the first important vote to recognizing gay marriages performed outside the country. Been awhile since we had news on the marriage front.
Although, props to a loving father in Omaha, whose desire to have his daughter's upcoming nuptials announced in his home paper has caused a change in the paper's policy towards gay marriage announcements.
