New Mexico.
From LezGetReal: A bill that would have passed a "DOMA Like" mandate against marriage equality in New Mexico has been withdrawn by it's architect, Representative David Chavez. Local LGBT groups are claiming a hand in this victory, which prevents inequality from being enshrined in the state's constitution (at least this year). Another thing to smile about in 2012.

Illinois!
In my birth state, the momentum from Prop 8 and Washington appears to be catching on! "State Reps. Greg Harris, Deb Mell, and Kelly Cassidy filed a marriage equality bill in Illinois General Assembly Wednesday." Harris was an orchestrator of the civil unions bill that was successfully signed into law last year by Governor Pat Quinn. That movement started in 2007 and took a few years to finally get rolling. Perhaps it may take time, but this is the first, important step… and wow. Even if it fails… Maine, New Jersey, Maryland, Washington State, California… all moving forward this year.
Of course… Minnesota, North Carolina, and New Hampshire all have factions that want to move us back. We keep fighting.

55 to 43
That's the number that future Washington GLBT citizens should remember when they think about the historic vote today that said they are fucking equal in the law. No words for how brilliant 2012 has been so far for equality.
Unto Governor Gregoire. And you know what? I don't care that there will end up being a referendum. Let the haters hate, today is a day where we can celebrate.

I love writing about Washington lately.
Today, the Washington House Judicial Committee has voted 7-5 to move forward with the bill in their part of the Legislature. Having already passed in the Senate, it looks quite promising that it will pass within the House as well. Then becomes the question of Governor Gregoire taking the time to sign the bill into law (which she has pledged to do)
Of course, the problem would be that NOM is waiting to swoop in and steal away equality once more (See Prop 8 in California or their actions in Maine). A group so driven to snag away happiness just amazes me. Spiteful, unChristian like behavior that is designed to be more dedicated to fighting love than using their money to focus on helping poor, downtrodden, or the sick.
